Part Time Ham Radio Operator and Dead Bands

Can you be a part time ham?

Yes, I do not normally turn on a Ham Radio at home, but while driving I monitor 146.52 and typically a DMR network in the state I am driving through. This is mostly CT and NYC Metro area. The sad fact – 146.52, NYC Metro DMR and CT DMR SW are all essentially not in use. Has ham radio gone social media? How can we justify the bands if we don’t use them? Ok, so I try to throw my call out to help justifying the bands. Have not had a reply in months!
